Why is ilorin ruled by strangers from the north?

     Ilorin, The capital of kwara is one of the Paramount chapter of Oyo empire during the reign Alaafin Aole ( son of Alaafin Abiodun). This city was regarded as one of their military outpost led by Are-ona- jabata, who was later succeeded by Aare -ona- Kakanfo Afonja.

   Alafin Aole who was the Paramount ruler of Oyo empire as at 1789 to 1796 as history have it, Have been controlling the whole land of Yoruba people in peace not until the demanded the duty of Aare ona kakanfo( Afonja) one of the leader of his army at ilorin to attack the city of his step grandmother called "iwere ile" but Afonja decided not to obey him, not because he wish to but he had for long knew that that place was a place of unreturning mission as forsee by their fathers . 

    Alaafin Aole wanted him to carry out this mission to expand the land but to him, it was a sucide mission.

Alaafin also told him to attack Apomu. He decided to pay deaf hear to him thinking he is after his life this makes Afonja to seek the help of his friend called SHEHU ALIMI ( a Fulani cleric) who has at then came to visit the land and was warmly welcomed as a Muslim cleric from sokoto.

 The Muslim cleric agreed to help him by sending his men to join the army of Afonja to weige war against the alaafin for demanding for his life through that suicide mission.

Afonja and his men moved directly to Alaafin palace after the expedition at apomu.

Afonja revealed a sacred Calabash to Alaafin Aole,  which according to their custom he is to die . Aole was very angry with what he did , so he performed a ritual and laid down a curse on every children of Yoruba land for betraying him , that they would be scatter around the world and strangers will reign over them till eternity before he gave up his ghost.

Hmm!! Curse is powerful.

 Afonja ruled ilorin for years after but later found out that the men of shehu alimi in his army were already growing strong in his army compared to his own people who are in limited number because he didn't trust them.

Before it becomes noticeable, it was too late to correct .After the death of shehu alimi his son called Abdulsalam weige a war against Afonja to take over the land by his men .

He shot Afonja arrow from his sword several times in an erect position to be sure of his death .

After this act, Abdulsalam took over the land by swearing allegiance to the people of ilorin.

After the death of Aole , Adebo succeeded him in 1796, followed by Alaafin majotu from 1797 to 1802 . Many war have been fought to get back their land from the Fulani caliphate's but to no avail.

Wars like :

Kiriji war

Egba- dahimey war

Ibadan- ijaye war

But this war was never won but rather cause more harm to the people of Yoruba as at then. So this lead to the reign of Fulani caliphate's in  a land of Yoruba people till date.

Title of the king has been changed from  Aare-ona - kakanfo to Emir.

Hmmm!! Can this land be retrieved once again ? Can the Yoruba from ilorin stand up on their feet to get their birth right that has been stolen by strangers.
